Living Museum

A project to re-engage people with the sesne of the museum, this project offers an opportunity for rational and objective thought through a series of virtual 3d computer game - style problem solving activities.

Technology is appropriated for entertainment

With the age of Enlightenment far behind us, it is fair to say that we now live in the age of Communication. Even though technology runs through the core of society, reason and rationality are becoming less and less important as technology is appropriated for entertainment.

Memory Theatre of Giulio Camillo

A none-linear space exists online inspired perhaps by the Panopticon or the Memory Theatre of Giulio Camillo, where users can access and navigate through, however it is dark and shadowy. Their task is to illuminate this space through a process of knowledge gathering. For example, Medieval Islam brought Mathematics to Western Europe, and without it Newtonian Law wouldn't exist. So before a user could build a bridge or pilot a rocket in the virtual space they would have to complete certain knowledge gathering tasks.

So the users job is to find specific information in a museum to create networks and nodes of information to populate the virtual space and give it dimension and meaning. They can do this by using mobile phones, the Internet, and or portals within museum to upload info.

Conclusion

The end result could open a wider contemporary debate about the morality of knowledge, i.e. the H-bomb, genetically modified food, etc. An outcome where a new forum for debate can arise. Problem at the moment that it is Western centric needs to incorporate other cultures.
