Conclusion
A primary mythological axiom (or story) could be described as a social Meme. The 'meme' is an idea, behaviours or even a simple melody which can be transmitted and replicated through social contact in any media. The concept was first developed by Richard Dawkins.
We can then regard stories as part of a greater structure or grammar of communication, based on countless archaic traditions having complex and subtle influence on the modern mind.
Myths could therefore be thought of as replicating patterns functioning in this huge and evolving database. Different mythological subsystems interact within themselves and also dynamically change due to external circumstances.
In the same way that mythological system could be described as open, able to evolve and participate with their external environment, the ideas and concepts that describe them can also be expressed in this way.
Perhaps a combination of many different theories, combining in a greater meta-system, each idea or axiom can replicate and mutate.
It would be appropriate here to emphasise the role of metaphor in this description. It would be foolish to attempt to make a provable formula of mythology which is almost infinitely complex. It is only in the realm of science fiction that formulas can be developed to predict human behaviour (Issac Asimov - The Foundation Trilogy)
However using a system theory approach rather than system theory would be a valuable aid for a methodology.
A system theory approach can be used to help reorganise and interpret all the different conceptual strands.
The different concepts and theories expounding the use of mythology could be used to find the best way to solve a certain precept or meta-objective.
Perhaps:
"Can a comprehension of mythologies in new and diverse media help provide a more socially inclusive way to communicate them?"
Within this question there would be subcategories such as:
"How will this approach prove itself to be working?"
(measured, predicted ultimately replicated)
"What is the actual influence of digital media in the World?"
"Can an understanding of current mythologies predict future social attitudes and predilections?"
This would be a problem solving and collaborative approach. Reflexive and open to change.-
